Riviera Travel — Reducing waste
In 2018, Riviera Travel committed to supplying reusable water bottles on their European river cruises to reduce the number of single-use plastic bottles. Each guest on board is offered a complimentary reusable water bottle to use throughout their cruise and take home with them. To further reduce the impact of non-recyclable items, Riviera Travel use non-toxic ink in their brochures, all of which are recyclable and packed in biodegradable envelopes. In addition, brochures can be viewed and downloaded for free online, to help cut down on unnecessary amounts of paper.
The Riviera Travel head office, based in Burton-on-Trent, recycles 90% of waste – aiming to bring this up to 95% by 2021. Environmentally-friendly solutions have replaced paper towels; copy paper comes from sustainable forests; and printer toners are collected and recycled. During Riviera’s latest Environmental Awareness Day in the Burton head office, the team raised £217.38 for Plastic Oceans – a nonprofit organisation that raises awareness about plastic pollution and cleaning up our oceans.
