Virgin Atlantic - sustainable uniforms

Virgin Atlantic’s uniforms have been designed with British designer Vivienne Westwood, with sustainability top of mind. Some parts (25%) are made from recycled plastic bottles, and all items have been developed with Closed Loop Recycling — a new technology that takes worn polyester clothing and turns it into new fabrics. Uniforms are designed to be durable so that they rarely need to be replaced, but when they do, they’re recycled through a charity called ‘Newlife’.

Newlife sends identifiable uniforms such as the red garments to be shredded and used for car flocking or house insulation and unidentifiable products such as jeans get sold online, with all proceeds going to children with disabilities or care packages for children that are terminally ill. The shop has created work in the community and gives employment opportunities for people with learning difficulties, disabilities and the elderly.
